as i promised in my previous post, i’m going to post some pictures of the gentse feesten. it was actually the first time that i went to the gentse feesten by day. i did have a great time though.
all pictures taken with bessa r3m, nokton 40/1.4, tri-x(for those that give a fuck..)
at a flea market…
some day, dogs will take over the entire universe. don’t tell me i didn’t warn you!
this dog was already able to drive a car!
funny how the guy on the left tried to cover his face with his hand. he wasn’t very pleased with me taking pictures. that’s for sure :]
beggin’ for some food.
on the neg, the lady’s arm isn’t cut off though.. apparently the stupid lab that scanned my negs can’t even manage to scan negs properly :-/
how i’ve stalked this dog… :)
poor thing had to wear his woolen jacket while it was quite hot.
soeur sourire revival? :]
overexposed *joy* :-/
it’s beginning to look like a hobby of mine to cut people’s feet off *blush*
fish-creature-things wandering through the streets of ghent.
a fish-creature-thing pooing a human. great!
dSLR’s.. everyone has one nowadays.
do notice the little fella with the white shirt on the right. he was sort of mesmerized but also gave an impression that he was quite bored :)
they were having a great time playing accordion and drinking booze.
apparently some people still have to work while others are enjoying themselves at the gentse feesten.
very… euhm… rock’n'roll?! *cough* :]
she was sitting there all day long, watching concerts and enjoying her cigarettes. man, you should’ve seen the pile of cigarette ends lying next to her…
he wasn’t very interested in the concert.
these guys were great!
balloons!
an italian guide holding her umbrella in the air to make sure she didn’t lose her ‘audience’ in the crowd. i stalked her for quite a bit and she always had her umbrella in the air. quite funny actually.
karate kid was also givin’ a demonstration at the gentse feesten :’ )
the wall must fall! they had quite a discussion about this.
this guy was soooo cool. i was taking some pictures of him when he suddenly noticed me and said that i had a nice cam. the conversation went something like this:
he: that’s a nice cam you have there mate. is that a leica?
me: i wish it was, but no.. it’s a voigtländer.
he: ah it does look like a leica though. i have a leica myself.
the conversation went on and on and on while he was doing all those fancy tricks with balloons. the people surrounding him gave us some strange looks. i think they didn’t really had a clue what we were talking about :]
these little fellas were quite fascinated by the guy with his balloons.
fucking uncanny.. i tried to take a picture of the guy in the middle, but each time the girl(or her balloon) was in my way. at the moment, i was so convinced that she wouldn’t be in the way. wrong guess it seems…
de nieuwe bellenman! (no i’m not even going to try to translate this :D)
she was impressed by the police who were escorting some wasted guy. but then she saw that i was taking pictures of her. she left and gave me one of those ‘burn in hell looks’.
owww yeah i love having a pole in my ass! (i’d rather not :])
guess what… the wasted guy from a few pictures ago ended up next to me. the police put him on the bench(next to me). do notice the rolling stones tattoos on his arm :]
white sport shoes with white hitched up socks are sooo wrong!
(i was having a beer and i just noticed… not that i’m always checking out people’s shoes and socks :D)
i wanted to finish off my roll, so i started taking pictures of this lady…
left girl: look that guy’s taking everybody’s picture, expect ours.
right girl: sir, don’t you want to take a picture of us? (yeah people call me sir.. still don’t know why. i don’t look like a ‘sir’. dude would do…)
me: whatever.
right girl: you’re not going to put this picture on the internet or anything like that, huh?
me: euhm… no (okay big lie, but it’s not like they’re flashing their boobs… so big deal) .
this guy was so funny.. but most of all wasted. he couldn’t even keep his mouth shut :]
on my way home…
that’s about it… pretty lengthy post, huh?! it’s more quantity than quality, but who cares.. i had a great time so…
anyways.. i’m off now.
cheers!

my favorite by far is http://blog.bertwynant.net/img/2007/08/25F1000026.jpg – like how you used the crowd to frame him and how he’s in his thoughts opposed to the people watching something.
http://blog.bertwynant.net/img/2007/08/39F1000029.jpg is good too. think it’s her expression (+not sleeping old people for a change) plus her bike and how the tires form an arch just like those above the windows in the background.
http://blog.bertwynant.net/img/2007/08/45F1000033.jpg is nice too. nothing too special but a nice portrait, you must have been pretty close for that one.
why do you leave the neg borders in some of the scans? have seen that in a few blogs/photo posts now and i really don’t get why one would leave the border, especially just on one side. art?
and set the image size in posts to “big”, it appears to me you’re using the middle size.
i had a lab scan my negs.. and apparently they sometimes leave the neg border on one side. sometimes i didn’t even notice it.. and if i’d noticed, i’d probably be too lazy to remove them *blush*
best option would be if i had a scanner of my own. i’m saving up money for an epson 4990, but i think it’ll still take me a while before i can afford it :(
as for the image size.. it’s on medium size at the moment to shorten loading times. this post contains about 50 images… and i don’t think people with 56k connections would appreciate it if i put the image size on large :)
Hey Bert (that’s your name!)
Bedankt om me even terug te katapulteren naar de Gentse Feesten. I enjoyed it.
Je begeeft je echt tussen mensen als je fotografeert, je staat er niet boven ofzo, je zit er gewoon knal middenin. Het is alsof je focust op dingen die je als feestganger ook zou opmerken, maar toch dat beetje mooier vastgelegd.
Knap.
Hey Bert!
I just dropped by your blog from a link from DA, and I have to say you’re pretty talented. Excellent street work. I love the ones with framing through crowds where the subject isn’t always in the foreground. I know, an elementary comment, but I still admire your work. I haven’t had the opportunity to do much of it where I’m from. I’ll keep an eye on your stuff!
Your blog is interesting!
Keep up the good work!
